Soaps losing viewers, particularly young people, reflects wider changes in our viewing habits. Many audiences' first stop when turning on their televisions is now a streaming service, rather than the terrestrial channels on which soaps continue to take pride of place. Most TV can be watched later or recorded, so there is less pressure to watch live.
